Round 2: Mosport

Round 2 of the J2I Sprint Series was an exciting one as teams flocked to the fast-paced course of Canadian Tire Motorsports Park, aka. Mosport! It was a hot hot day in the hills of Canada, with track temps soaring to 120F/48.9C! This however wasn’t going to affect Lieutenant Dan, with another quick performance during qualifying putting him on pole position for race one once again, with Franco lining up next to him at the front of the grid. Unfortunately Dan wouldn’t stay there for long though, as a mistake into the hairpin on lap two would lead to an off-track excursion with Dan barely keeping it off the wall. This mishap would lead to Franco taking the win for race 1, his first win of the season!

Nickalator having secured the last cutoff spot for the reverse grid of the feature race would take the field to green for the Feature race as cars jostled against both the pit wall and eachother heading into turn 1. Dan made some big moves early on to get moving up the field, while behind a great battle would develop between Nickilator and BikerPilot for 6th place, and farther in front FuzzyTacos would hunt down SimplySteve for that final spot on the podium. In the end SimplySteve would defend his position for third place in the Feature race, with Franco taking second and Lieutenant Dan taking the victory he surely would have liked in race 1.

Dan will surely still be happy to leave Mosport still leading in the drivers standings, though Franco follows by only a margin of 13 points in second, and Brando rounds out the top 3 a further 22 points back. N Squared featuring Nickalator and McMerc continue to hold their stake at the top of the team standings, with Zero Fawkes Given OG still holding onto their second place, and ARC Send It! pushing their way past both Rookie Mistake and HMO Racing to get into the third podium spot in the team standings.

Some close battles are beginning to appear throughout the points standings of the J2I sprint series, lets see if Round 3 at Road America can shape things up a little bit!

Round 1: Motegi

And just like that, we’re back to racing! Sprint Season 3 has officially begun following the running of the Hondaslut Home Invitational presented by Waifus and 7-Eleven at Twin Ring Motegi! Lieutenant Dan is certainly not here to play games this season, taking pole position with a 2:02.674. All was scrappy, but clean at the front end of the field as bot14 immediately went on the offensive against Dan. Meanwhile in the midfield, Steezy and Long Island Nerd would make contact nearing the end of the lap, sending Long Island Nerd into fellow teammate BikerPilot. The battle remained fierce at the front, but Dan was able to follow up his pole position with a Race 1 win!

BearTN would go on to lead the field as they tip-toed through turn one for the 40 minute Feature race. An impressively clean race ensued as the field began to spread and multiple mini battles would ensue. Broseidon took claim as the biggest mover, with a whopping 10 spots recovered after what looks like an unfortunate disconnection in Race 1 moved him to the back of the grid for the start of the Feature.

In the end Dan would take his Hyundai home in first once again with Franco and Beaver taking Second and Third respectively. This order will also round off the top three for the current driver standings. With the combined performances of Beaver and Nickalator, Nick Squared stakes their claim as the leading team, followed closely by Zero Fawkes Given OG and then HMO Racing. It’s a bit too early to make assumptions of how this season will play out, but I think we all can agree we can look forward to seeing some fantastic battles across the grid!
